Maybe I should stop being so proud of myself for doing the things I'm supposed to be doing.

I am reminded of this thing that some-ancient-philosopher-maybe- said:
"folks always want credit for something they're supposed to do. They'll brag about stuff a normal man just does. They'll say something like, 'Yeah, well, I take care of my kids.' You're supposed to, you dumb guy. 'I ain't never been to jail.' Whaddya want? A cookie? You're not supposed to go to jail, you low-expectation-having fella!"

Also, yes. I do want a cookie.

The first hyacinth of the season struggles to peek out from the desolate ground. It occurs to me at this moment that I might actually make it.
Dang, I can almost smell it!
